President Biden Issues a Memorandum on Extending Eligibility for Deferred Enforced Departure for Liberians 

President Biden issued a Memorandum on Extending Eligibility for Deferred Enforced Departure for Liberians to the secretaries of state and homeland security that defers through June 30, 2026, the removal of any Liberian national, or person without nationality who last habitually resided in Liberia, who is present in the United States and who was under Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) as of June 30, 2024. It also defers the removal of any Liberian national, or person without nationality who last habitually resided in Liberia, who has been continuously physically present in the United States since May 20, 2017. In addition, President Biden continued through June 30, 2026, employment authorization for individuals included in these categories. We will publish a Federal Register notice as soon as possible to implement the president’s memorandum.

U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas Decision on Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)

USCIS is complying with the July 16th order from the U.S. District Court in Texas. The order does not affect DACA for individuals who have an existing DACA grant. SAVE will continue to verify DACA recipients, including the DACA extension that SAVE announced earlier this year.
DHS Secretary Designates Haiti for TPS

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas designated Haiti for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months, effective August 3, 2021, through February 3, 2023. Haitian nationals and individuals having no nationality who last habitually resided in Haiti may submit an initial registration application under the TPS designation for Haiti during the 18-month registration period that begins August 3, 2021 and ends on February 3, 2023. TPS applicants may also apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD).
TPS for Somalia Extended and Somalia Redesignated for TPS for 18 Months; EADs Automatically Extended Through March 16, 2022

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Somalia and redesignated Somalia for TPS for 18 months, from Sept. 18, 2021, through March 17, 2023. Current beneficiaries who want to maintain their status must re-register July 22, 2021 through September 20, 2021. Somali nationals and individuals having no nationality who last habitually resided in Somalia may submit an initial registration application under the redesignation of Somalia for TPS and apply for an EAD between July 22, 2021 and March 17, 2023.
SAVE Records Disposal Date Extended to June 4, 2021

On February 8, 2021, SAVE announced that USCIS will dispose of SAVE records that are more than 10 years old, which are those dated on or before Dec. 31, 2010. The date for SAVE users to download case information from the Historic Records Report if they want to retain information about these SAVE cases has been extended. SAVE user agencies now have until June 4, 2021 to download the report.
SAVE Discontinues Sponsor Deeming and Agency Reimbursement Information Collection

SAVE intends to discontinue an information collection initiative launched in September 2020 following a May 23, 2019 presidential memorandum. Feb. 2, 2021, President Biden issued Executive Order 14012, Restoring Faith in Our Legal Immigration Systems and Strengthening Integration and Inclusion Efforts for New Americans, revoking the May 23, 2019 memo. SAVE is providing affected user agencies notice that it intends to discontinue its information collection entitled “Sponsor Deeming and Agency Reimbursement” effective June 18, 2021.

DHS Extends TPS for Syria and Re-Designates Syria for TPS for 18 Months, Automatically Extends EADs Through Sept. 27, 2021

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N. Mayorkas extended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Syria and re-designated Syria for TPS for 18 months, from March 31, 2021, through Sept. 30, 2022. Current beneficiaries who want to maintain their status must re-register March 19, 2021, through May 18, 2021. Syrian nationals and individuals having no nationality who last habitually resided in Syria may submit an initial registration application under the re-designation for TPS for Syria and apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) between March 19, 2021, and Sept. 15, 2021.
DHS Secretary Designates Venezuela for TPS; Implements DED for Venezuela

Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas has designated Venezuela for Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 18 months, effective March 9, 2021, through Sept. 9, 2022. Venezuelan nationals and individuals having no nationality who last habitually resided in Venezuela may submit an initial registration application under the Venezuela TPS designation during the 180-day registration period that begins March 9, 2021, and ends on Sept. 5, 2021, and apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD).
DED for Liberia Reinstated, EADs Extended through June 30, 2022

Under the president’s direction, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will reinstate Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) for Liberians and will provide for continued work authorization through June 30, 2022. Accordingly, DHS automatically extends DED-related Employment Authorization Documents (EADs) with a printed expiration date of March 30, 2020, or Jan. 10, 2021, and a Category Code of A-11 through June 30, 2022.
SAVE Records Disposal

On May 14, 2021, USCIS will dispose of SAVE records that are more than 10 years old, which are those dated on or before Dec. 31, 2010. SAVE users have until May 10, 2021, to download case information from the Historic Records Report if they want to retain information about these SAVE cases.
